Configure deposit settings
Choose whether checkout uses global deposits, product deposits, or product deposits with a global fallback.
Configure deposit settings
Choose how much customers pay upfront at checkout and whether deposits come from global rules, product rules, or both.
Where this lives
Open Business Settings, then Payments & Stripe, then Deposit settings. These settings control the deposit amount shown during checkout and the amount BouncePlatform sends to Stripe when online payment is available.
Choose where deposits come from
- Use global only when every order should follow the same business-wide deposit rule.
- Use product only when each product has its own deposit amount and you do not want a business-wide fallback.
- Use product plus global fallback when products with a deposit should use their own amount, while the rest of the order still follows your global rule.
Set the global rule
The global rule can be a percentage or a fixed dollar amount.
- Percentage deposits work well when order totals vary and you want the deposit to scale with the booking.
- Fixed dollar deposits work well when you want the same upfront amount for most bookings.
- If you choose a fixed dollar deposit, decide what should happen when the order total is smaller than the deposit amount.
Understand the fixed deposit fallback
The fallback prevents checkout from asking for an impossible deposit.
- Cap at the order total means the customer pays no more than the full order amount.
- Use the global percentage means smaller orders switch back to the percentage rule.
- Require full payment means the customer pays the complete order amount when the fixed deposit is larger than the order.
Product deposits
Product deposits are managed from the product catalog. If a product or variant has its own deposit amount, checkout can use that amount when your deposit source is product only or product plus global fallback.
For mixed carts, product plus global fallback is usually the most flexible option: products with deposits use their product amount, and products without deposits still collect a global deposit.
Before you save
- Test a small order, a normal order, and a cart with multiple products.
- Check that the storefront order summary matches the payment amount you expect.
- Review product deposits after changing the global mode so older product amounts do not surprise your team.
